Mark Schramm From SUPERHOT VR To Starship Home

Mark Schramm’s living room has an astonishing number of VR headsets on display and ready to use.

Schramm is the director of engineering at Doug North Cook’s Creature. Along his wall you call see his entire path in immersive media from his time in university before making the Quest port of SUPERHOT VR to developing the first-of-its-kind mixed reality game Starship Home for the Quest 3.

Be sure to check out Schramm’s Recreation Room where he drives and flies on a motion simulator with 96 gigabytes of RAM taking him anywhere he wants to go.

“Is it gonna take much longer than everyone expected? Yeah, maybe,” Schramm said about the long path to mainstream VR. “Is it gonna stop us? No.”

In the most recent Good VR Podcast, connecting from Australia to the United States, Schramm and I find common ground in how we communicate that time jump. We find ourselves telling people how many hours from now we’ll be available instead of trying to communicate with time zones.

“I just love this medium, I’m gonna be around until it either becomes super successful and eventually I retire, or it doesn’t and it goes away again,” Schramm said. “So that’s sort of why I’m in this space, because ultimately as long as I can make a decent living out of it, I’m not gonna leave.”
