The developers of X-Plane confirmed high-end flight simulation is on the way to Apple Vision Pro.
Developer Laminar Research indicates that a combination of Apple’s foveated streaming in the forthcoming 26.4 release and NVIDIA’s CloudXR 6.0 technology will be key to the launch. What’s more, the developer is promising to "track cockpit positions” using ARKit. From the announcement:
By leveraging image detection through ARKit, the sim can reliably track cockpit positions, allowing you to seamlessly merge the physical and digital worlds.
Laminar says a companion app on the App Store will enable the simulation to automatically detect the Vision Pro and begin streaming to it. I still have a number of questions about hardware compatibility and requirements — the announcement mentions pilots will “be able to stream immersive PC and cloud-based experiences from NVIDIA RTX systems, including X-Plane 12” — and I reached out to the studio for details.
Described as the “world’s most advanced flight simulator”, X-Plane 12 is sold on Windows, Mac, and Linux for $60.
