New Walkabout Mini Golf DLC Tours Continue In March
Passports in video to new places in virtual reality.
Over on UploadVR’s YouTube channel you’ll find a tour video I made for the release of nearly every Walkabout Mini Golf course over the last several years.
On those tours, you’ll see the artists and creators of one of VR’s best places chronicling the decisions and lore behind their game. I’ve never been paid by Mighty Coconut, but I have served as a trusted journalist to them led by my interest in their art and artists. I covered them so much over the last several years in hopes that I could one day inspire others to do the same with other great destinations in VR headsets.
I’ll be continuing to make those tour videos here and they’ll still be releasing the moment a Walkabout Mini Golf course opens to the public. While Mighty Coconut hasn’t revealed the theme, name, or actual launch date yet, they’ve confirmed to me their next course launches in March.
Walkabout also confirmed their next course should launch in May, followed by a long summer break when it is often too hot to use a VR headset anyway, followed by three more courses to release before the end of the year.
If you didn’t know, Walkabout Mini Golf courses are made in VR. The creators use an app called Gravity Sketch as their main tool, with work for a course extending over a year as different artists with different areas of expertise each spend a couple weeks layering on their particular bit of charm.
If you’ve never put a date on your calendar to remind yourself to spend $5 in VR in service of supporting art you believe in, I am here to tell you that is something you can do, and maybe should do, to support creators in virtual reality you believe in. They have every possible force working against the distribution of the work you access in another universe, and when you show up to buy and amplify the work you believe in, its ripples will be felt.
I’ll have those dates for you to mark on your calendar here for Walkabout as soon as Mighty Coconut shares them, and I’m looking to build up coverage of Real VR Fishing, Golf+, Pinball FX and Puzzling Places as well. If there are other projects in VR to add that I should jump on — I’m looking for deep DLC libraries in VR with really passionate fans — please let me know with an email to ianontherecord@gmail.com
